Why is There
Blood in My Urine?
- Visibly (gross haematuria)
– Urine appears red, pink, or cola-coloured - Non-visibly (microscopic haematuria)
– Urine appears normal but the red blood cells are detected under a microscope

Haematuria can have many causes—including urinary tract infections, kidney stones, bladder or kidney infections, vigorous exercise, prostate enlargement, and even cancers of the urinary tract. Sometimes it’s due to injury or contamination from menstruation.
While not always serious, blood in the urine should always be checked by a doctor to rule out any underlying issues.
